    Sorry, I can't help you.

I believe the maximum number of cities is 255, and this number can't be changed.

I vaguely recall a similar thread at the SL Forum... BeBro asked about it.

I also ran into this problem in my '1888' scenario. Kill a bunch of indian or australian cities. Siberia shouldn't have many cities at all.

But this isnt a scenario its a real map, simply the map is way too big I guess. Either that or we must make ultra dip maps contains way more ocean. The only hope I can see for this problem going away is Civ3.

Frank is most correct. The land mass is so enormous that it would take atleast 1000 cities to be even close to full......

What map size & land mass you played on and when did you reach the 255 max limit(1A.D. or 1960A.D. or?)

Civ3 might be the only solution, another might be to increase the production cost of a settler/engineer. This will make you & the computers want to 'perfect' your cities a little more rather than continue to expand to 255.

What would be the largest map size one can have without definitely hitting the 255 max limit?

Since cities can be built with just one square in between, a 25x40 map could conceivably support 250 cities.

But that is not realistic. The computers & most humans don't build cities that close.

I mean on an average game how big of a gigamap has one played on without hitting the 255 limit (without purposely trying to hit the 255 limit or purposely not try to hit it)?

What happened was a few tribes (European Union and Egypt) expanded heavily in the early goings. The other tribes didn't catch up city-wise and there is a huge advantage for Europe and Africa right now, who happen to be allied Republics while the rest wallow in their archaic Monarchies.

I mean, I don't say it in the game because it is a Diplogame and I don't like to brag, but Egypt and I are going to crush everyone at this rate. There can only be war or cooperation, or if some intrepid hacker/programmer could figure this mystery out that would obviously fix this.

I hope someone will take their precious time to try and figure this out, but understand if they don't.

                  UltraDip I depends on you!!!!

I believe it was just about 500 AD when we hit the limit...maybe a bit earlier. (A bit early eh?)

Someone suggested somewhere that to counter the great land mass of a gigamap, the amount of shields for settlers could be increased, therefore making expansion more difficult. I think this could have helped the game out a lot. Too late now though

oh and capo-"but Egypt and I are going to crush everyone at this rate"- thinking not

Sorry Drake, that comment was made during the Euro-Egyptian alliance, how things have changed...
