  • Hittites

I am beginning a scenario for the ancient middle east, and one of the civilizations I want to include is the hittites. The problem is, I can't find any names of cities for the Hittite civilization. If anyone knows where I could find names of Hittite cities, pls tell me. Thanx in advance.

BTW, Hattusas was the capital of the ancient Hitties. It was located near modern day Ankara.

        Trés cool-
These are the most important Hittite cities:

        Hattusa (capital)
        Carcemish
        Kanesh
        Alalach
        Halab
        Cushshar
        Chashshu
        Tilbarsip
        Comana
        Canis
        Beyecsultan
        Tyann
        Adana
        Tarsus
        Carga
        Masat
        Emirgazi
        Iflatupunar
        Gavurcale
        Hanyeri
        Sirkeli
        Fasiler
        ------
There are alot of other cities from the time of the Hittite city-states between 1200 and 700 BC.

FYI, here are some Mitanni cities:

        Washukanni (Capital)
        Harran
        Amida
        Tirka
        Assur
        Niniveh
        Arbela
        Nuzi
        Kar-Tukutti-Ninurta
        Arapkha

(The latter ones are Mitanni dominations, most of 'em in Assyria).

Both theHittites and the Assyrians had posessions in Syria- but during the early times, these were under the rule of Egypt.

Just a few words about hittites cities: many of the cities in upper lists are from NEO-HITTITE period ( that's what i mean - these cities were founded AFTER the fall of Hittites' empire )- example: Karatepe ( was the residence of the king Asitawanda, the last of hittite kings - we still don't know the hittite name ), Marash, Khatti, Kumukki.
Oh, i forgot a hint: The old Kultepe name was Karum Kanesh ( it cames from Assyrian - "old market" or something ).
"Io non volgo le spalle dinnanzi al nemico!!!" - il Conte di San Sebastiano al messo del comandante in capo, battaglia dell'Assietta
"E' più facile far passare un cammello per la cruna di un ago che un pensiero nel cervello di Bush!!!" - Zelig
"Live fire, and not cold steel, now resolve battles" - Marshall de Puysegur
