    Congratulations!
    Well done!
The highest degree I ever got was "%STRING0 the Magnificent" at the end of a Civ game.

I hope that no one of you doctors will ever try to find a remedy against Civ2-Addiction...

      Congratulations, my dear doctor.

what was the topic on which you promoted? We might think of some questions you can't defend.

I'm a cognitive psychologist (= someone that studies thinking, learning and memory).
My topic was memory and problem solving. I showed that people can rapidly store plans into long-term memory in a task they have no experience with, and talked about the mechanisms by which this occurs.

Congrats to you, too, then, Prometeus!

Once more a proof that Civ2-fans are intellectual people...
Compare it to people who play stupid shooting games.

Damn, I still got a few more years to go before I am a dr.

dr. blackcove, that's an interesting dissertation topic. What were the case examples you used to test your thesis?

Hi, Steve, I ran several experiments using the water jugs problem. Essentially, people are shown three jugs, each of a different size. They are told how much each jug can hold (for example, 8 liters, 5 liters, and 3 liters). Then they're told what their goal is (for example, to get 2 in the first jug, 5 in the middle jug, and 1 in the last jug). Moves are made by pouring from one jug to another, stopping when you fill a jug or run out of water in the jug you're pouring from.

We forced participants to plan ahead and only enter their moves when they actually knew the solution. To make it even more fun, we interrupted them following the planning period but BEFORE they entered their moves. We made them do something else for a while, and then said, "So what was that plan again?"

There were several other experiments aimed at showing storage in long-term memory, but that was the most critical one.

                      Congrats Dottore!

P.S. It's a good thing that Xin Yu wasn't participating in the study. I'm sure he would have come up with innovative ways to move the water from jug to jug:

Pre-Dr. Blackclove: "No, no, that violates a house rule....you MUST pour the water!

Xin Yu: "Well, the readme didn't specifically prohibit siphoning!"

To La Fayette, as fine a gentleman as ever trod the Halls of Apolyton

From what I understand of that Civ game of yours, it's all about launching one's own spaceship before the others do. So this is no big news after all: my father just beat you all to the stars once more. - Philippe Baise
