  • SMAC bugs

I'm gonna have to lower my SMAC grade four or five percent. Until now (had the game about two weeks) the game has run really nice and smooth, no problems. But now it's crashing left and right, and freezes up with the slightest nudge. Has this happened to anyone else.

Also, is it just me, or is the SMAC cd bigger than most?

It hasn't happened to me, but did you install Patch 3? I hear it fixes a lot.

SMAC requires three patches to make it run smooth? 'nuff said.

No, he meant it takes three patches to suck less. The problem is, when the game finally stopped crashing I started to notice how brutally boring it was.

Actually, there are only two patches. Patch 2.0 was the first one

Like, I said FastEddy (btw, that reply sounded like Red Dog) I HAVE HAD NO CRASHES! For some people, it helps, but mostly I just downloaded them, because they included new things.

Enhancement v.2 included PBEM and other multiplayer options, because people on the forums wanted them. Name me one other company that has responded SOO fast.

Enhancement v.3 included a new natural phenominon (Borehole Cluster).

Yes. I have also had trouble with that bug. I have just downloaded the latest patch but have not yet had a chance to try it yet.

My game now crashes all the time when I try to create a new map and change the current rules which are now standing on randomize factions leaders and randomize factions social agendas back to normal.

man, kalahari, you are soooo right.

the first week of smac'ing for me was pretty cool, though i did get awfully bored with the whole "faction" concept. it is really pretty limiting, when it comes down to it.

then i downloaded patch v.3 oh, man. big mistake. afterward i couldn't even get the damn thing to play. and since i bought ctp the next day, installing smac again hasn't really been high on my list of priorities.

also, i don't know if anyone else has noticed, or if it's just because i did the complete install... does ctp run considerably slower on anyone else's machine? i did the complete install on smac too, but ctp seems to take so long to do everything, especially the wait between turns. although this means i can finally get some reading done that i always wanted to...

Let's put this in perspective. Civ 2(which almost all of us here agree is a great game) had at _least_ 11 patches(and I'm guessing 14; the history I have starts at 1.04). Fairly major bugs, such as mysteriously teleporting units, were present until 1.10.

Now as for SMAC stability, I haven't had a crash since a sound related problem in the demo(including v3).

SMAC may have required three patches but unlike CTP the problems it had can be fixed. I see no hope for CTP.

I definetly agree with TheClockKing, if CTP had a good two months of beta testing and serious debugging, then it might get a 8/10 on my scale. It could never live up to SMAC. All you folks that cant get past the erie graphics sure are missing out. CONVERT NOW! THROUGH DOWN THE CHAINS OF CTPism. WORSHIP SMAC THE ONLY TRUE SEQUEL

I have 96 Mb or SDRAM. Neither SMAC nor CTP has crashed on my machine-- looks like the best $80 I've spent lately.
