  • OpenCiv 3 - Graphics and interface

Hi, I thought it was necessary to open this thread to talk about graphics implementation, how does graphics will be, map specifications and other stuff have to be made.
The thread is open but I suppose is too early to talk about that.
    However...

    good thread lordexcelsi...
At the current momment I am the only artist working on OC3, hopefully when we get more a more playable game more artists will join. We (I believe!) have decided on a few things:
*PNG (Portable Network Graphics) have been decided as the choice of graphics. Why this and not gif or jpg? It is basically a descision about size and copyright.
I think there has been some call for a larger graphic size, I think Civ3 was 64x64, I have been making grpahics 98x98. I have made a frew units and citys, and a proposal first screen, but I belive that it may be to non-civ realted, being that it is a space scence. I am currently working on some new proposals, so you'll soon see what I come up with!

I will soon open a thread for map things. That will hopefully clear some things. But basically we have agreed to use hexagon tiles. The size of the tile has not been decided, but I hope it will be larger than earlier. I have been testing the map system with 64x64, but eventually the size should perhaps be 128x128.

About graphics, we will be using directX, and we will create our own GUI, not a windows GUI based system. Units will propably be rendered (and perhaps also animated) sprites, not 3d, but in the future 3d units might be an option.

Map will be 3d-accelerated, and it will use direct3d. Later at least opengl version could be made. There will be an option of flat and height mapped (kinda like in SMAC) map. Later I will amke also a 3d map.

About UI, nothing more accurate has been decided, but it is possible also the GUI will be made in 3d.
