Gwap, a good question. I had the same problem earlier. I have DSL which is routed through a LINKSYS Etherfast Cable/DSL Router (since I have two computers which both accesses my DSL).
Well, the LINKSYS Router has a built-in firewall. The way I was able to circumvent the firewall was to go into the Router setup and turn on the DMZ Host within the Router. In addition, I had to enable the DHCP Server and assign both of my computers with an internal IP address (for the Router).
Of course, all of this may mean nothing to you if you are not using a Router....but I hope I was able to shed some light on your problem and not completely confuse you.
Thanks Wittlich. It does help me a bit, in figuring that it might be somewhat problematic. Thing is, I'm dialling in to the corporate network and then surfing out onto the Internet.
Yeah, it's a T1+ connection, but they do insist using proxies (probably with everything other than 8080 blocked off)
O dear, probably means I'll have to invest in an ISP; which, if you want a decent connection, *and* you are in the UK, is expensive... probably has to be ISDN.
Will have to settle for trouncing the AI
