  • Spies and defense against them?

Although I don't see it, I know the computer is using spies to steal technology and infiltrate my cities. The thing is, I used 10 spies in a row on a city and it's always caught by the counter-intellegence. Is this extremely strong counter-intellegence due to some city improvement, a wonder or what? And why can't my empire be as resistant to spies?

If they have spies in their cities it increases the chance of you being caught. Also, The Agency wonder is the effect of a spy in every city.

If you put diplomats or spies in the city you can see other spies and there's a bigger chance enemy spies are caught while doing those bad things.

If an enemy does steal an advance it's shown as a message (look at the message tab).

If you send a spy or slaver into an enemy city and he gets caught, that city becomes more alert to future attempts. This is indicated by the icon of an open eye, next to the city name on the map. While the city is alerted, stealth units are much more likely to get caught in that city. (The effect is not permanent, but I'm not sure how long it lasts.)

So instead of sending 10 spies in a row to the same city, spread them out over the continent and send each to a different target. Also, look for the eye icon (eyecon?) before infiltrating a given city, to make sure it hasn't been made wary by another civilization's spies.

I don't know for sure does it work but I managed to still technologies using such a strategy: I move my spy to the enemy city and wait for a turn or two and only after that I push the bottom ‘still technology’. After this procedure I do manage to still a technology and I did it many times.
