  • Diplomat as Surveyors

Whenever I have sufficient Public Works, and the required advance, I build Forts to fill up interior frontiers as much as possible as most other players do.

But I also build two to three Diplomats - not only do I keep them throughout the game in the interior, but I Sentry them where I have interior frontiers so I am able to construct Forts.

Players use just about any unit they want to put one where they wish to build a Fort. But for me, when the Diplomat is done as its job of "surveyor", he will be ready for diplomatic missions.

I do similar things with diplomats. In my current game I produced 4 or 5 diplomats to head into the Middle East and Europe to establish embassies with all the nations there. Once they had done that and held a few receptions they wandered around checking out city sizes and a war between the Greeks and all its neighbours. The best thing is other nations don't get ticked off about diplomats crossing their borders!
