Echo while on the servers

I have just put CtP on a new machine, and after installing, patching, and getting on the multiplayer servers, I find that I cannot start or join games and when I type anything, it is echoed in the chat window. When I try to join or start a game, it tells me connection lost, returning to lobby, but my connection is still functional.

Anyone know the fix for this or seen it before?
