  • The chat window commands, cheat?

Everyone like this theme: "Cheating", and are concerned about to each player know what couldn't do in a regular game.

I was doing a research to find how much you can do with the commands in the chat window, but to my surprise there are just a few links on the web that said just a little bit.

So I take my debuger last night and search for the /attach command (the only one I knew from reading some post here)... and what I found was:

    /rnd
    /A
    /importmap
    /exportmap
    /demo
    /goodmode
    pacman
    toe
    /attach
    /detach
    /resetstrings
    /reloadslic
    /resetlos

After that I search for those commands on the web again, only the import and export maps where part of some post here on Apolyton but in CTP II and are used for create scenarios (I think), as /reloadslic.

I put a new PBEM game and try this commands:

/A - move your turn into the next player without the message to send them the mail. I think is like function of the A-key in a normal game. BTW you can have also the barbarians, and there you can see the entire map, really cool to see where the ruins or the goods are, not the other players, but in the next /A you can see where they are.
/rnd # - play the number of rounds indicated in #. Example /rnd 5 move for you the next 5 turns without let you play (as press the n-key 5 times)
/exportmap filename - Save the current map so any one can edit it for an other game.
/importmap filename - You can load other map over the current game, but your cities dissapear but they are still there (maybea bug )
/demo # - ??? I think it play your turn and send the file to the first player on the list
    /goodmode - I don't know I did'n bring to work this command
pacman - with out the /-key, I don't know what this do, but if you write the word it's not written into the chat window
toe - the same as pacman
/attach # - You can set all the players except you to the AI and you can continue playing like a normal game. It is useful if you have not the CD and want to play a new game, you request for a new file game from a friend who have the CD. Start playing (the CD verification is not set for PBEM I think) /attach all players and go for a new game
/detach # - Return the AI to the normal players
/resetstrings - What I see was the return of the names of the players, i.e. Santa Ana for Mexicans and quit the BerXpert set at the begining of the PBEM
    /reloadslic - I did's see any efect
/resetlos - Set the map to darkness, only turn on where a city or a unit are.

If any one know more commands, or know how make it work (pacman, toe...) please bring some light to us.

This is my contribution to the tricks or cheat? thread as I mention there.

And as I suppose every body are going to said: the use of thise commands is cheat... I said is yes it's cheat, OK!

    Excelent work berXpert! Congratulations!
The /A command seems to be a fine cheat if it does show the entire map.
Try to enter some SLIC commands after / .

The "/A" command is "The Mother of all Cheats"

The fine line between taking advantage of the game features and cheating is fine no more

I ask myself this question over and over: is this game really worth playing?

And I answer tentatively... Sure, take part in a game in which anything goes! This way, no one can complain about anyone breaking the rules

All I can say right now is BUMMER

My goodness. Good work Berxpert and yes I regard them as bugs.

I think Notuncommon is right. There is a SLIC function called "godmode" which reveals the entire map...

As for the SLIC commands (functions) take a look here.

If SLIC code does work through chat window in both online and PBEM games then we have a serious problem!

Gentlemen, we must all huddle together on one thread. And discuss this serouis problem. This latest discovery threatins PBEM. We must all make a decision on its future.....

Or make a pledge never EVER to use these things.

Are you sure it's not "/godmode" instead of "/goodmode"? That would make more sense... atleast to me.

Not that I have ever used cheats or ever intend to do so, it's just that "godmode" can be regarded as a 'standard' cheat code (e.g. in Quake and the like you have 'god' for invulnurability).

I don't consider cheat codes a bug. The game testers use them to... test the games, and I don't see any reason to remove them after the official game release.

Perhaps this "/A" command could assist in making pbem games more versatile, and make it possible to play them onine and as email games? Now that would be quite useful, and a good use for these codes. Blackice and I have discussed modifications for ctp before in regards to pbem/lobby games. I'll be testing a few things out when I get time I guess. It'd be good to have a few more people show interest though.

Fuzz, if you've got any online game saved send me the file.
I supposed to get online with Blackice to play a little to get that file but didn't make it.
