  • Fifth City Placement

We're getting a new settler from Lima in the near future. Where to?

Edit: .bmps of the below are here: http://apolyton.net/upload/view.php?...yplacement.zip
You should be able to edit them in Paint if you want to show your city placement ideas graphically. IrfanView is a good, free program that you can use to convert the .bmps to .jpg, .png, etc.

First off, a zoomed-out map without the resources. Future Sarantium city and settling limits marked as per the Sarantium border agreement.

Note that we will not have a galley anytime soon. As such, settling on the island is not really a possibility to my mind; we'd have to waste the settler keeping it around till one is built. The rest is wide open, within the limit imposed by the Sarantium agreement.

I think we can safely ignore the north for now; with copper secured around both AB and FS, all iron would bring us is Swordsmen, and I don't think we need them enough to spend a settler getting iron. As for the production potential of a city up there, it's all right but nothing big; it's grasslands, plains, and forests up there, and we already have Corn hooked up near Foxtrot.

We'll probably want a city west of Foxtrot eventually, to take advantage of the coastal land there as well as the coast and the fishes. Like the northern site though, that too doesn't have great production capacity long-term. So I'd say south is the way to go.

I believe UnO suggested the following site back in his 725 BC UnOrthOdOx Domestic Plan

BTW, the tile underneath is a grass hill (sorry for the blurriness, this is pretty zoomed out)

And I stand by that suggestion, along with my suggestion of cottaging over the sugars.

To me securing those happy and making a solid border should be priority 1, especially now with the whole dual contract business.
