banana finsihed a tech. According to their screenshot, it should be Meditation. If they are going for an oracle slingshot, they have probably started priesthood and that will take them 5 or 6 turns to research.
Although we have a higher tech rate, we can not catch up with them for priesthood. We might be faster in building the oracle, if and only if, we focus on it completely (ie: settle right on the marble, so we don't need masonry for a quarry, build a road from our capital-river to the marble 4 tiles, and start mining the other hill for more hammer production). I don't think it's worth all this. Other wonders are better candidates...no sig

I tested it in-game for marble and you don't get the benefits untill you research masonry...
Something else though in regards to the bananas: we can't trade anything with them currently because we are not connected to each other. Our cities are too far away and the benefits of the trade network too unsure to devote one of our workers to building that road. For a sea-based trade network, we need to research fishing and sailing and have a route between our cities on one of our maps. For this, the bananas have to walk along the coast once, to map it.
In short: I don't think we'll be able to trade with the bananas shortly, so our offer to give them marble for the oracle is probably something we won't be able to do anyway.
Their settler should be built this or the previous turn, so they are already walking towards some base site. Our diplomacy message will most likely have been sent after their choice for next city placement. We should be on the lookout for their settler with our second scout there.no sig
