  • The Technology Thread

To be updated as the game progresses. Topping this would be good. Also, I'd like to add in the beaker value of each tech (useful for discussing trade options).

    Techs we have:

    Hunting
    The Wheel
    Agriculture
    Mining
    Archery
    Bronzeworking
    Pottery
    Mysticism
    Masonry
    Polytheism
    Writing
    Mathematics
    Iron Working - cannot trade
    Alphabet - cannot trade

    Research: Construction.

Techs AC has, but we do not:

    Animal Husbandry
    Fishing
    Meditation
    Priesthood
    Monotheism
    Metal Casting
    Machinery
    ?Sailing?

Techs we have but AC does not: None. Oof.

Techs Banana has, but we do not:

    Animal Husbandry
    Fishing
    Meditation
    Priesthood
    ?Sailing?

Techs we have, but Banana does not:

    Hunting
    Archery (req hunting)
    Masonry
    Alphabet (cannot trade)
    Writing (req alpha)
    Mathematics

Given the above, what techs do we want to go after, either by research or trade?

Animal Husbandry is one that I've wanted for a while, but we've not been able to work in. If we can acquire it by trade, great.

Monotheism will allow OrgRel, though that's only useful to us once we've conquered Vox and have religion. IIRC, AC is going for Judaism, so this should hopefully be available by trade.

    Other techs, perhaps longer-term goals:

Sailing (req fishing) - trade connection to AC, once we have a port anyway
    Calendar - we have incense
    Metal Casting - forges
    Machinery - Macemen
Code of Laws - courthouses, leads to CS and Philo

Ok, so we want/need AH in the near future. Other than that, none of the techs we can trade for are terribly important to us.

However, AC is looking to trade for Construction once we complete it. While I wouldn't mind dragging our feet a little bit, I think we want to press forward with trades with AC for diplomatic reasons.

As for banana... it seems to me that we should be able to set up something like hunting + masonry for AH + meditation or somesuch. I don't know the beaker values off the top of my head, but IIRC AH is expensive for a first-tier tech (more than hunting, that's for sure). Maybe masonry for AH straight up would be close, I don't know. I'll check CivFanatics to see if they have that info easily accessible.
