  • Stormian Honor

In the original Gathering Storm team, at least during the period when I was active, we had a consensus that we wanted to play honorably - that we didn't want to try to win by lying, making deals we had no intention of keeping, and so forth. It is my hope that that consensus still holds, but I figured I'd start a thread to discuss the issue to try to verify whether or not that is the case.

That is my preference... but no plan survives contact with the enemy. Look at the shenanigans leading up to the Great Bobian War.

I agree that we should play on the level.

I disagree that we should proclaim it to other teams. That was one thing that really pissed some teams off. It was as if we were saying that they were lying, thieving scoundrels. The Germans did it right. They played hard, but straight.

Honour is best not to be mentioned so much. It is best perceived. It is seldom granted when proclaimed.

        to that!
Honour, more than granted or perceived, is Action.

I think we all agree we should keep our traps shut this time about internal team policies. It was a major mistake to broadcast our "honor policy" last time... the slightest (real or perceived) failure in that vein was construed by others as gross hypocricy, and thus wounded us diplomatically.

It was a lot like my own country's situation, actually. US politicians (damn them) spend a lot of time talking about how great we are, how well we mean, etc. So much time and so much airy promise, in fact, that we cannot possibly live up to it. Ergo, disappointment & disillusionment overseas (not that there wouldn't be disappointment even without the silly rhetoric, mind you, but it makes things worse).

            Sorry for the off-topic digression.

Fully agree. Let's try to remain honorable, but please let's be silent about it!

I just found these, which are hilarious:

Just for fun, can someone figure out the most l33t / 1337 way to write 'Gathering Storm'?

Oh, and BTW, I very much agree with nye's sentiments on the subject of our honor.
