Does anyone understand corruption v distance to palace?

Has anyone figured out the formula and/or chart of corruption compared to distance from palace for each government type. Vels grid plan to lower corruption is excellent, but the continents I play on refuse to conform to that nice rectangular shape. When I see a juicy wheat or cow a fair distance away from the palace I'd love to know if settling my city one square further away from the palace will push me into a higher corruption zone.
