I don't know but maybe this would be too specific but I think it would be neat to implement leaders as an actual entity in the game. For instance a king can marry and create an heir to the throne. In a democracy elections can be held and the human player would always be the leader no matter who is elected and he/she would become the heir of a dead king. I just thought this would make the game more realistic and interesting. If this were to be implemented then each turn could not be equal to 50 years or more for obvious reasons. Maybe civ3 can be real time? heh each second would equal a week? or a month? Like make the time it takes for a ship to go around the world be whatever it would in real life but only takes a minute of our time.

Real time is a bad word around here I think we shouldn't worry about this too much its a game and always remember that. In the mass media thread I started I proposed using election years as a time to raise popular support for your actions in a democracy. That is all I've really seen of appliable scenarios for heirs and elections but there may be more.
