Odeo found out that every 4 turns you get to change government (if you revolutioned too early you are wasting time on anarchy). So every 4 turns is an odeo year. 3850BC is turn 4, therefore the first odeo year.

as for your first question -- What's an Odeo? -- oedo is one of the posters in this forum and odeo is, IIRC, Latin for "I hate".
and if you haven't gathered, Smash is something of a joker and Xin one of our legends - he doesn't say much, but when he does it is worth listening!

Blasphemy! His name's oedo, not odeo. Otherwise, you're right on.

BTW, does 'oedo' mean something (not necessarily in latin)?

and Scouse Gits are the legend too. Nobody knows how many they are. SlowThinker is an internet hacker who likes to be always a "Settler". Unfortunately, he is not perfect and the system often crashes after his actions. Sorry.

cool, while I´m away you created two threads about me
make sure to bump them often enough so they will soon have 100 replies

my handle has no particular meaning, I created it far before I joined the apolyton forums and used it in various chats. later I found out that there´s also a japanese comic called Cybercity Oedo 808. but actually I don´t know anything about it.

Japan, Oedo, your fame has, rightly, spread far.

But while I happily spam to help get you up to the desired 100 posts I do have a moan.

WHEN will I finally stop forgetting that I've delayed a change of gov.t waiting for an Oedo year, only realising I'm still in despotism or some outmoded non-representational gov.t half a dozen Oedo cycles later?

I've tried holding the Oedo chart tightly in my non-mouse hand until the change has been made. I've tried solemnly intoning the number of turns to the desired Oedo year before the start of each turn. But all to no avail.

                        STILL I forget.

At the critical moment the bloody Mongols sneak attack, or a long awaited caravan arrives or my voices tell me that some misbegotten civ is about to build the Gardens. And I rush to click the needful clicks and to tap the needful keys thereby missing that tide in the affairs of men.

When realisation belatedly strikes, oh revered one, the words BLOODY BLOODY OEDO may be heard in ringing tones well down my street (spreading your fame yet further, you will be pleased to hear).

Now, short of investing in one of those books that promises to improve my memory instantly, does any kind soul have the panacea to cure this awful ill?

It's good to know that I'm not the only person forgetting to switch government in an oedo year.

Just make a deliberate decision to play without the oedo years. Works for me.

This is such a nice discovery, but I have yet to implement it in my game style. And in SP, it's hardly a miss. Still, it's nice to know the cycle.
