  • Despotism victory

I am just so forgetful, the last game I was playing (deity, RH's, 7civs, large random)I gained Monarchy fairly early. But of course I decided to wait for the oedo year, only I forgot. I am not a seasoned pro and could not tell the difference between monarchy and despotism. I still managed to get HG and col. I din't even notice when changed the tax rates. I did think it a little strange that it was taking so long for republic, so around 700ad I had a look and realised that I had forgotten to change govt.
At this time I was a close second on the power graph, but with no real hope of victory.

This all leads me to my question. So is there any hope of victory with no change of govt? I am not sure if will be possible at deity but it may be at other levels. If so what kind of strategy should be used.

Maybe this would be the ultimate challenge for those who find deity to easy, which is not me for sure. I am still waiting for my first pre 1970 victory.

Lord of the Mark, I enjoy your posts as I feel that we are around the same level, and you always seem to be addressing topics which are also of interest to me. Thanks

If you think it's possible to win with cities growing 1 every 30 turns, with 80% of waste and 50% of curruption,...Then yes

If I'm right, monarchy reduces waste, corruption, and increase food produced on irrigated squares

I certainly would not like to do it, but I think I have read on these threads that victory by conquest under Despotism has been achieved...

Yes, there was a stretch last year were it was in vogue. Quite a few people did it. (both bloodlust and AC) I also believe someone did it in OCC, but I can't remember who. (but I'm sure someone will pop in and tell us) It's not as hard as some of the other challanges.

Rah, I think you're talking about me (who else? ). I once won an OCC game in despotism. I don't remember what year I landed, but if you search the forums or archives you should probably be able to find it somewhere.

Yeah Paul, I did think it was you, but since I'm getting older and my memory can be suspect, I wimped out and didn't say it was you.

Nice to see that you didn't remember the landing date off the top of your head. I guess you've set/reset too many occ records.

I still loved it when we all first started and weren't sure if it could be done. I was so proud of one of my first efforts where I landed in the 1940's. (Ming and I were competing/bragging with each other) AND THEN, you "wrote the book" and set entirely new standards. Those early records are now just laughable. But it was still fun.

I looked through the archives and found this thread. Apparently I landed in 1946, back in April 1999.

I think it would be harder to do it in ics than in occ (more cities means more corruption/waste, and more disorder). But I am inexperienced in these sort of things.
I don't have much to say 'cause I won't be here long.
