    I was always trying to figure out if the sheild color of Ai acts diffrent from the other colors. Why? it always seems that the Mongols (purple) and Zulus (green) are not very nice. Neither are Ghondi?! and the japanese which are also purple and green. But Japanese and Ghondi seem to do alot better science wise then the presaid two.

    So I am thinking that the row(shield color) and the column (Civ name) mean diff things. For instance... Green left (zulu I believe) are Aggresive(green) Militurists(left). if this was the right... Aggresive(green) perfectionist(right)

    Just my thinking. I really would like to know. any help on this topic will be appreciated greatly

    they seem to be assigned "characteristics" in 3 categories.
    1.attack: 1 = aggressive -1 = rational
    2.expand: 1 = expansionist -1 =perfectionist
    3.civilize: 1 = civilized -1 = militaristic

    The numbers are different for the different leaders.

        Well they are pretty similar to me. Purple and blue steal techs a lot from me (except the mongol who usually just attack me). I always am at war with green it seems. I don't have hardly any problems with yellow. But it's hard to verify this. Indians and Sioux have similar settings I think. And zulus and japanese have similar settings as well.

        These settings are in rules.txt I think.

              Look at the three numbers after the second adjective. ie., the last three numbers in the short rows. The Sioux are neutral on all counts (0,0,0). Judge everybody else relative to them.

                  I don't know what affect a 2 would have, but one thing I have done is modify my rules.txt to make 6 civs like the Mongols (Aggressive Military Expansionist) for a knock out big map brawl or increase the number of perfectionists for a small map tech race. Now that I have both v2.42 and MGE on my PC, I feel like I can change all kinds of stuff in v2.42 without the risk of screwing up my "real" version.

                    I have MGE and have thought about buying 2.42. I take it they co-exist without any problems? I was wondering if installing one would overwrite the other.

                      They install to different default directories, so as long as you let them both install themselves, you shouldn't have any problems. (famous last words )

                          Warning: This is a long post.

                          This thread interested me, and I think I have worked out the meaning in the rules.text file (I use a Mac). I started an OCC game [deity, raging, 7civs, medium map] specifying opponents to be the most peace-loving or stay-at-home. I won in 1901 despite not getting monarchy (!!) until 925BC.

                          My categorization follows:

                          Characteristics of Civilizations by Color

                          The characteristics are assigned to 3 categories.
                          1. attack characteristic:
                          1 = aggressive
                          0 = neutral
                          -1 = rational
                          2. expansion characteristic:
                          1 = expansionist
                          0 = neutral
                          -1 = perfectionist
                          3. civilization characteristic:
                          1 = civilized
                          0 = neutral
                          -1 = militaristic

                          White
                          Romans, 0, 1, 1
