  • Y2K GigaWorld Diplogame

I am currently developing a present day scenareo for the GigaWorld map starting at year 2000AD.

    The civilizations available will be:

    Americans
    Russians
    European Union
    Indians
    Chinese
    Muslim World
    Third World

This scenareo will be set up to reflect the world situation as realistically as possible. Of course it cannot be completely realistic.
It's quite a ways off being completed and ready for play ut I thought I'd put the word out and see if anyone would be interested in playing or might have some ideas or opinions to put forward.

The Americans of course will be very powerful and very well off, followed by the EU who will be very wealthy and powerful as well.

The Russians will need some economic smarts to get them on track but they will have an enormous army.

The Chinese are a bit of a wild card....they will be a little behind but will have that humungous population to play and a very large army as well as all that stolen nuclear technology. The Chinese may do very well if you play your cards right.

The Indians will be the smallest but will of course have nukes and a relatively formiddable army.

The Muslim World of course will be fundamentalist. The Muslims include the Middle East, North africa, Indonesia and the Near East up to the Indian border. These guys will have hordes of partisans and fanatics as well as a reasonably formiddable standing army and airforce. Led by Saddam Hussein, The Muslim World will be an interesting civ to play.

The Third World of course will need some development. They have the potential but have so far gotten the raw end of the stick. Playing the Third World will be a challenge and some real smooth wheeling and dealing will be needed to prop up the economy. The Third World has the largest amount of cities, however, and the largest population.

The key to this game being an enjoyable one is that it is a diplogame and that leaders give diplomacy the importance it deserves. Trade agreements will be one of the big topics of discussion. Another is nuclear proliferation.

A Modpack will be developed to extend the tech tree into the 21st century and changes will be made to the wonders to make them more modern.

    Any ideas on rules?:

    1. Government switching? (Americans might go fundy)
    2. Sea vessel movement?
    3. Bribing?
    4. How shall trade agreements be made? What about Tariffs?
    5. Should SDI be allowed or perhaps made more difficult to reach?
    6. It's obvious the Americans will win the space race....should it be scrapped?
    7. Alliances of course should be legal....

The starting point for players will be very unequal. America will be hard to beat and I think everyone's going to have to work together to take them down (If that's what your is going to be.) Now I know a lot of people are going to whinge about this this scenareo but I'm going for reality, not fairness. I'm not sure how to determine who gets to be who in a fair manner. Any suggestions for that? I think it may come down to a first in-first served basis. I also suggest that whoever is american in this game should prefferably not be a warmonger.

Well, if you need someone of impeccable reputation to play America peacefully then look no further, I'm your Huckleberry

GigaWorld = GigaCities = 255 big cities already established in the correct ratio between the civs = no problem.... IMHO

No one can build any more cities; it's a great idea, concentrate on the game of diplomacy and building what you have. The planet has run out of space and resources to build new cities...

You know I had you in mind for the Americans Diety.... Forever the diplomat that you are

There's a lot of cities in this one we may just end up wth about that many

Well, I dont know if youve ever placed 255 cities on the Giga map, but it doesnt utilize much of the world. ****, on HOTW we are bumping 255 worlds already, and thats just a normal large map.

It's been done Rasputin. Last year, GNGSpam, Capo, I and several others tried playing a diplo game on a gigamap. We hit the 255 city limit with a good 60-70% of all useable land empty.................

                  IT IS NOT WORTH TRYING!

The amount of land is staggering...........

So I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in playing a real world 2000AD? I'd like to organise a game sometime soon. all the cities will be laid down....all necessary infrastructure and all that **** will be setup already.

We need to first of all settle who will be playing and then who will be which civilization.

                    At the moment we have:

                    Diety (possibly American)
                    Lowang (Chinese preffered)

                    Any other takers?

If you do a real world scenario, might I suggest PBEM? Due to the sheer number of units that are going to be around.

Ok....so we have two contenders for America. I agree that this game should be an email game so we don't have to sit around while people have their turns. This way we don't have to work around everyone's schedules.

I also recommend that whoever is America should be relatively non-aggressive. You might be a Republican but lets not go nuts.....America will have the unprecedented military and technological might that they currently have in the real world.

I'm thinking of making SDI more difficult to obtain so america will think twice before trying a Unilateral Imperial conquest. I suggest that the American player seriously think about his goals....if you throw your weight around too much the world will probably rally against you. We're all very jealous you realise.

I think Deity would play America well and he offered first. The European Union is still up for grabs.... I wish to be the Chinese. The European Union also get Australia, Canada and South Africa.

well disinterested masters of civ2....stay tuned for the scenareo download coming soon.

You can all vie for a place in the game at a later date

Don't hesitate to show some interest or present some ideas

The "Near future" modpack will be applied to this game. It has some great new techs and changes to the game which I think will make this particular scenareo work really well.

I will be the EU. However, you realize when you pass out the scenario, everyone involved is going to have a dozen suggestions on what you need to change.
