  • Plans for a Greek themed Diplogame...

I have been discussing the next diplogame to occur with a few people (mostly Drake and GNGS Spam [Chris]) and the consensus was that we should do something different than the regular World map. But I also think that the European styled Diplogames have been done to the death as well, so for something new we are going to start a Diplogame based on the ancient Greek states.

As of right now me and GNGS (Chris as I will now refer to him as) have begun working on the game, we have a map ready and seven tribes, they are as follows...

    Myceans
    Spartans
    Delphians
    Thessalonicians
    Illycians
    Macedonians
    Athenians

If you are interested in getting involved (please do not select your prefered tribe yet) contact either me at nkreefer@aol.com, or Chris at chris282@aol.com or just post on this board.

We are open to suggestions and would appreciate any help, we are going to try to (somewhat) revamp the tech tree and change some of the wonders and stuff, so it should be a fresh new gaming experience altogether.

    Peace.

It looks as if the Monday Night game I'm involved in will be winding down within two or three sessions (assuming a spaceship is in fact launched). I will be available for a monday or tuesday night game at that point in time.

The concept sounds interesting. I'd like to see a tech tree with as many steps as the standard tree, but where the technology increases at a much slower rate (where the technology doesnt ever reach modern standards.) Basically, have as many units, with similar increases in strength as a typical game, but have the end of the tree somewhere around where the industrial revolution typically occurs. More ancient units with greater diversity. The idea is this: if you have an ancient theme (Greek city states), keep it ancient! I'm sure I'll expand upon this in a personal discussion.........

I'd like to keep the number of players at 5, 6 tops. It's just so much easier with less players.....but I'm easy as yall know.

Well, we have begun work, but nothing huge only baby steps. At this point in time the map and tribe locations has been decided, and I am currentling compiling a terrain set to give this a noteably Greek feel.

When I get home today, which should be around 2:30 or so depending, I will post up the little map in the corner to show where starting locations for each of the seven states are.

We are currently kicking around a lot of concepts for the game. Chris has begun speaking with Drake as well, so we are getting a lot of ideas for this game, feel free to throw in your two cents. The going idea right now is that the seven states will vie for power and ultimatley the crown of a unified Greece. They have until the time the Romans historically arrive on the scene or else a divided Greece will surely fall to the mighty Roman Legions. We are going to try and impliment plenty of innovative new ideas, and have (only in one day) done some very solid research and development on this game. Chris is currently working on a new tech tree and units, I am currently working on a new terrain chart and graphics.

This is not going to be done for upwards of a month or more! So we've got lots of time for new ideas and thoughts to develop here.

Discuss this: I was thinking of having elements of Greek mythology involved in the game; Mount Olympus, Krackens, the Trojan Horse, the Gods, etc.. what do you guys think of that?

          Alright, peace.

I definetly think that some of the wonders of the world should be based on mythology (such as the Statue of Zeus at Olympia) or perhaps the Temple of Artemis (Diana) at Ephesus (thats a good one!), maybe the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (in Turkey). If we keep this ancient, we want to keep the religion and it's ideas ancient!

Definetly.........just as long as we don't get to fantastical

There will be a lot of things diffrent in this game. First off, we wont go beyond Ancient units, no Gunpowder or Stealth Bombers, sorry. The cut off date will be about when the Romans historically conquered Greece. However we will be slowing the rate of turns down so that, despite being cut off around 150 BC, we will still have around 300 to 400 turns. Further, since more then half of the tech and units are outside of this games range, we will be overhauling the Tech/Unit trees and adding many many many new things so that you never reach the end of the Tech tree, but that your still kept before Gunpowder.

There is stil a lot to be done, as ive mentioned, so this game is at the least a couple of weeks from us even discussing it really in depth. Please be patient because this will be monumental.
