How do I start Multiplayer Game?

I tried to start a multiplayer game with a friend and we couldn't get it to work. We made sure the IP address of the host machine was correct and tried several times (using Internet game option) and we tried the Dial up option too. The person trying to join always gets the error message "Host computer failed to connect." Can anyone help us out. Thanks.

Are you sure you had the right IP? Sometimes civ tells you a wrong one; look here for more infos: http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum2/HTML/001768.html
If this still doesn't help, one of you is probably behind a firewall...
