on the subject of finding "undiscovered" cities. The Apollo program will (in 2.42 anyway, i don't think it did in 1.07) show new cities as they are founded. Also, you could always get an embassy with the lone civ if you don't have contact (MPE, UN) and try and to share maps - usually a 1 city civ will be worshipful of you, so you probably wouldn't even need to gift anything to improve their attitude. Once worshipful, they usually exchange maps.
