  • Future Tech bonus score??

I'm in the middle of a hot seat game - Prince level, 6 Civs left, 2 human players.
It's 860BC, and I'm the most scientifically advanced Civ, having just discovered Electricity.
Upon closing down last night, I retired instead of quitting to see the score, to find I had a Future Tech score of +5.
I obviously haven't discovered any future techs yet, so why the bonus?

    Has anyone seen this before?
I just can't work out why it's happening, but it was still there on retiring from the game last night.

Sure you're not using a slight mod with one of the future Techs brought into play for 'jet fighters' for example - obviously this is not exactly the case, but perhaps an extra medieval tech has been inserted into the tree ????

Nope, no mods at all, just the standard game.
I've never seen it happen before either, and did nothing different in setting up the game to what I've done before.

          Word of warning!

Don't discover Future Techs after FT99! It will go back to Future Tech 1, and adjust your score accordingly!

I did that once, and was up to 99 with a bonus of 495pts. Discovered the next tech and my bonus went to +5pts.

When I get to 99 now, I just adjust science rate to 0.

WhiteKnight: Isn't the FT limit like FT255?

I've been well beyond FT99 before...

Tizzy: Before you started the Hot Seat game, did you load up another game? I've seen Future Tech points carry over into new games in MGE... it's a bug that I don't know if MPS fixed.

Nope, game fresh that day. Switched on the PC, and started game.
As for FT99 - never got to there, so not a problem

in civ2 MGE the max FT is 255 (256-1) obviously the size of a bianary register.

                  Tizzy:

This happened to me once. I actually started a thread on it way back when. The best reason we could all come up with was that the future tech showed up in my newly started game because I was using the cheat menu in a previous game in order to build a scenario. I quit the scenario making and began a new legit game without restarting Civ. I think I may have been running MGE at the time.

Could something like this have happened? If not, maybe it's one of the many Hotseat quirks.

I think it must be a hotseat quirk.
I hadn't been using the cheat menu or anything like that - it was a brand new game, started as soon as the PC was booted up that day.
The thing is, I could (just about) understand it if it had happened to both hotseat players, but it didn't - it only affected my score.
