Disclaimer: I don't know much about running websites, so this proposal may be totally impractical.
Mark and Dan, have you considered setting up one of those free, extrenally hosted message boards to serve as the OT when the Apolyton server gets overcrowded?
Of course its performance and features would suck in comparison to the regular OT, but it would be better then nothing...
