  • Suggestions for Fixes/Additions to the Fourms

    There are three things that I would like to see added/fixed on the forums. They are:[list=1][*] Addition: Could you set up some way so that you can access a persons profile another way then finding one of their posts, and clicking on the profile button. What I'm really asking for is a list of all the users, which can be sorted and searched any way you choose.[*] Addition: Gameleague has a function called notes. This allows anyone registered in Gameleague to send a note to anyone else in Gameleague via Gameleague. This allows people to carry out more private conversations, without giving their e-mail address. I really like this function, and I think it would be nice if the Forums had something like it.[*] Fix: Currently, only admin.s can delete posts. I don't see why the person who wrote the post can't delete it. I also think that there are some other things that it would not hurt if the user was able to do for themselves. For instance, is there any reason that a user can't create a closed thread (to make an announcement)?[/list=a]

    These are just some quick ideas.

      Thanks for the quick response MarkG. I have two other ideas, that I came up with after I posted the earlier ideas.
      [list=1][*] How about some improvements to the UBB Code? What I really want to see is basic color support (like some code that allows you to make text red, green, blue, or gray.) I don't feel that this method needs to support a lot of colors, just some basic ones. Prehaps a piece of code that looked like this:
      Code:
       [color=red]red[/color]
      [*] What if you could flag a thread so that you were informed if it had changed next time you entered the fourms. This might take up surver space, and slow down loading pages, but it would be really useful and worth a bit of extra time, especially if you wanted to keep track of a certan thread (which most people do).[/list=a]

        On 1, you can already do that with HTML, which is ON in all forums, but with some restrictions in the Off Topic Forum

        {font color=<font color="red">"red"</font>}{/font}

          Thanks Nark,

          I knew that you could do that with HTML code, but I didn't realize that it was that easy. I thought that you had to use long identification numbers.

            As for #2 on your revised list, ada, it too is already in place: if you have cookies enabled in your browser, the next (second) time you visit the forums your browser will show you the threads that have been created/added to since you last visited.

              Hey, guys!

              I noticed that the intigator, ahem, starter of a topic is listed on the board. This is nice, but why not also have the lastest poster listed? This would allow folks to keep track of what their favorite targets--er, um--posters are doing!
              No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

                I believe this was brought up just recently. The reason given for why it shouldn't be done was that it would slow down the server too much. I'd thought that it would be cool too, but if it means slow loading of pages, then it's not really worth it.

                  ada: to number one, just create a bookmark called: http://apolyton.net/cgi-bin/ubb/ubbm...tbio&UserName=

                  then when it pops up in the location bar add the name you want to check at the end. (spaces translate to a + sign)

                    Thanks Ghen:

                    I knew that you could do this (directly edit the address), but I didn't think about using it every time you want to search for a user…

                      DanQ:

                      I knew that this worked, but I was under the impression that it is iffy, at best. I was also thinking of a page where all of the posts you requested was listed, not only the ones on a certan fourm.

                        You mean being able to search for posts by a particular user? This feature also already exists.

                            I think adaMada meant the page of one certain topic, not the list of all forums. It would be really very useful to see which thread was changed since my last load of its page.

                            2. I wil develop the idea of point 1: I pursue several forums, so it would be helpful for me to provide a "mixed" page: I imagine the possibility to get a page similar to a certain forum. There would be concentraced all desired threads from different forums with the point 1 included.
