I shouldn't be forced to change when somebody else decided to do the changing. This infringes on my rights!

rights? do you own the forums? this is not public tv. they do not control the advertising, well not directly.

but I agree the monkey must go. many people play civ games because they don't have higher end computers. this is discrimination against the people with low end computers (not me thankfully). This is the only advertisement I have serious objection to.

Well if I have to acquire control of Gamestats to prove a point then.... but that isn't relevant! The MONKEY is a menance!! That is the FACT!

            The Solution: Webwasher

This program works great. It acts as a proxy server so the ads aren't even loaded. This saves time and will stop the crashing. It also eliminated web bugs and popup windows. Best of all, it is free for private or educational use.

Instead of complaining, why don't you do something about it. I have said this several times already -- take a look at <A HREF="http://apolyton.net/about">our About section</A>. A recent news item there tells you exactly what to do.

                  EVC:

Disable the "java" option in your browser. That idiotic monkey ad needs it enabled in order to load — w/o java, it cannot load or use that memory hog of an applet.

That's what I've done and, voila!, no more monkey ad. When ever the ad tries to load, it simply skips out, leaving a blank space or no sign of advertising at all! Other ads can still display, but not the monkey one. I know it's not the ideal solution ... but it works, at least for me.

If I knew, I'd gladly tell you. But I don't ... I only know the ins-and-outs of Netscape Navigator for Macintosh. Someone around here undoubtably knows, though.

Just look for an option, which has the word Java in it and disable it. That should do it.
