I wonder... how many of these guests are registered and why would they not register? Any ideas?

I'm a "guest" until I make my first post for the day. I suspect others who have the "store your identity..." box unchecked are the same way.

Also, I think that when javascript is disabled, your name never shows up....this happens when I post from the office.

A more reasonable question would be "why would they register?". Until they feel a need to post something or vote in a poll, there really isn't any reason for a new visitor to hand over their email address to the admin, and there's no reason you should demand they do so.

Requiring registration to browse might produce a one-time surge from current lurkers, but after that there would be very little new blood. Of course your other ideas, such as restricting the number of emperors, reveal that you probably would prefer to reduce the competition from new posters.

In the registration process, isn't there the option of choosing to have the admin not contact you?

Not that I've been through the registration process lately...

Until one posts a new topic or a reply to an existing thread, they will be listed as a "Guest" as at such a time a person identifies themselves. There is no reasonably accurate way to determine just what % of "Guests" are actually non-registered and how many are registered but have yet to participate in any discussions for a given period.

If you have enabled the option to have your browser to remember your username and password you will always appear on the list even if you haven't posted.

. It requires the cookie retaining setting in the browser also. I use three different platforms at different locations. Two with their setting require log on, one does not.
