If you're getting the same layout, Murgatroyd, you mean you don't like the "old" layout right? If you can't see the new design, how can you make an opinion on it?

If you are still seeing the old design, hit the 'Refresh' ('Reload') button on your browser; if that doesn't work, empty your browser's caches and try again.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant that I was getting the same layout described in the first few posts (in other words, the new layout). I still don't like it. It ruins the old visual continuity of the page, the news is distracting, and the placement of the line breaks on the polls is awful. Plus, the little areas of dark gray between the two columns are getting on my nerves for some reason I cannot explain, as does the area below the forum list.

Edit: adding one more complaint: The 'Who's Online' box has too many user names split between lines. Is there any way to fix that?

Don't like it. Too cluttered IMHO...

Then again, it is nice to have all of that info on one page...

Perhaps you can experiment a bit with the layout?

The polls look a little better, but I still don't like it for aesthetic reasons.

I'm using Netscape 4.75 for Macintosh at a screen resolution of 800x600.

I agree with Murgatroyd. The new layout is too busy. My eyeballs are having a hard time trying to find a place to settle.

Edit: using NS 4.73 on 1024x768.

At 800x600 under Netscape 4.51, the layout is so busy as to be almost unusable. The variable-width grey line between the Forums column and the Polls column is visually distracting. The density of the text and the alternation of poll question and poll links is so distracting as to make that section essentially unreadable. The dividing of the news section up by game makes it difficult to find the latest news, and requires that I scroll down to find everything. The solid block of small text in the "Online Users" section is unreadable. Overall, the whole thing seems cramped.

If the forum entry page is not changed to a more usable form, I am going to leave the forums, because I cannot use forums with the current layout.

until now, the layout was being worked on on IE at 1024, i've just started optimizing it for netscape at 800(to get all common choices)....

btw, the intention of the adding of the news headlines is not for it to be the central of the page, but to provide some extra information to you while you browse the list of the forums. you can find the very latest news by going to the apolyton.net/news or by going into a forum and use the news menu.

also, again the list of logins currently online is to not to be the central of the page(as it would be if we made it like something more easily readable(a list with each name on it's own line)). it provides you information on a compact form that might catch your eye sometimes. but if you wont to see the whole list of people in the best form, you should use the full listing page

Is that IE5.5 at 1024x768? If so, that's perfect!

As for the new layout, I run IE 5.5 at 1024. It seems too busy and distracting to me as well. Good idea, provides a summary, but not perfectly executed yet.

                                The good news:
At 1280x1024 on a 17" monitor the forum list is wide enough to be useable, and the with the new colors, the Polls section is easier to read. However, the News section is still difficult to read. The "Online Users" section is readable. The "Private Messages" section gets lost between the Polls and News sections, and would work much better if displayed across the bottom or top of the page.

                                The bad news:
The 14" monitor on my home computer is completely unable to display resolutions above 1024x768, and at 1024x768 the text is blurred.
