  • Petition to stop the UGO adverts

I know apolyton has no official control over the ads, but we as posters do have leverage. As such can we please have some ads that are not by UGO. They are offensive to some, and are embarrassing if you are accessing apolyton in, for example, your school IT centre. There must be someone who wants to advertise here without being morons.

If possible, by all means. But since Markos & Dan haven't done any such thing, I'd say it's probably not possible in their particular situation, and we just need to deal with it.

I see lots of childish ads that are pretending to be porn ads. That's annoying, but I can live with that.
However, I did see one ad that suggested that some ppl would be better off dead ("put them under a truck" I believe is what the words said). That's just totally disgusting, I find that ad VERY offensive.
When I see it come up again, I'll post a link to it, and I hope that at least that ad can be removed.

UGO probably makes some of the most immature ads around. I see plenty of bad sites, which have very reasonable, sometimes even interesting ads.
It's a shame that Apolyton, which, as I hope we all agree, is an absolutely great site, apparently has no choice but to deal with the totally worthless, annoying and offending ads from UGO.

On top of that, UGO seems to be down quite a bit too. Over the past year, it happened maybe 2 or 3 times I've had my Netscape browser wait indefinitely for a UGO ad. As a result I couldn't load the Apolyton page I was trying to view.

      Conclusion: UGO = !@$!@# %!@#$!@#

But I don't think there's a whole lot that can be done about it

        Mark and Dan,

I don't know exactly how much power you have regarding this issue, but if it is within the realms of possibility please get rid of them ASAP!

Not only are they both offensive and embarassing, as other posters have said, but I have also noticed the forums get markedly slower whilst these advertisements have been up.

        Thanks,
        Mark13

Have you considered software to block the ads? Mine works a treat.

The UGO advertisements is what is paying the server costs, so getting rid of them is not a viable solution -- however, a check on their content is.

We, and the other sites that are apart of GameStats, changed to what we were informed was a strictly G-rated banner code a little while back. I have emailed UGO about the "reversion" in certain instances and am awaiting a response.

In the five months I've been here - I've seen the ads once - yesterday.
