    Legman,

Maybe because you have broadband at work and not at home?

DanQ, glad to hear you think it'll pick up speed in a couple of days - that it's only temporary.

No, that can't be it. The connections in question haven't changed from what they were before the slowdown. Also, other websites load as they used to, it's only Apolyton that's slowed down over the past week - and only from my home computer.

I have had no such problems, so suffer in your jocks .

I've had terrible trouble accessing threads from my home computer over the last 48 hours. The pages just don't quite load.

It seemed to be okay this morning. What's going on? Could it be related to active banners like the UGO ones? They don't seem to allow a gap between actions for the page to load completely.

As I said, UUNet had some serious congestions along its backbone. So if your connection also uses the same backbone, then your speed would have dropped, just like mine.

After they fix the problem (might have already), then your speed should return to normal.

I am not sure about your other websites, Legman, you have to do a traceroute -- or ask somebody to do it for you -- to find out.

Very stangely tracerout (tracert www.apolyton.net) does not seem to indicate a problem when things come to a halt.Maybe the program (perl ?) running on the server takes to much time and so the server can not respond.Maybe when someone is making a new post the server needs to index other posts .That could be very consuming if there are a lot of posts like on the off-topic forum.
If the case was just low transfer speed if could be fixed by disabling images !But it is not !

At certain (peak) hours, I even get Internal Server Errors. Time for a bandwith upgrade, Dan?

It is not my decision (re: bandwidth), but I do know it is being looked at...
