This is usually how I end up posting.

    - Type reply
    - Submit it
    - Get taken back to the thread where I can see my post
    - Go back to list of threads
    - Re-enter the same thread so that my browser will realise I've seen that thread before (and the last message in it, which is mine)
    - Go back to the thread list.

Is there any way to get my browser to realise I've seen that thread without unneccessarily going back to it a second time? Even if I reply in a new window I've still got to do some refreshing.

Otherwise, if i don't go to the thread a second time, I'll go to the same thread hours later because I won't know if I was the last person who posted there. I know I could remember the times, but who's going to remember them for every thread they post in?

Anybody got ideas, or am I just being picky?

I don't believe that you are being picky.

I find it a disappointment that after posting, the board doesn't realise that I have read my own post.

Of course it could be tricky as someoe may have slipped in a post between your reading the thread, and posting your contribution.

One thing I'd like to see is an indication of the last poster's UserName. Perhaps on the far right.

The whole post thing is a large haystack for me.

In fact, I try to refrain from too many posts in too many different forums for the simple fact that I can't remember where they all are!

PS. The title is cool! It sounds like a movie somebody might want to rent, or a poem.

      Consider this. A personal filmography:
      - Tales of the Frozen Mukluk
      - Links in My Browsers's History
      - Vegas Payback

Funny that you should mention a poem, Slingshot...

Is there anything that can be done to the forum to prevent this slightly annoying problem?

          let me explain what happens:
by default, in the thread list each thread is listed with a normal url like this http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum23/HTML/011151.html
when you reply to it, you get sent to the same url. it is obvious that once you visit the thread once, even without replying, the browser will show the link as visited for ever

change 1: i've made a little hack which adds the time of the last post after the url of the thread in the thread list, like this http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum23/H...tml?date=21:21
this way, once a thread has a new post you can know. I hope you find this is a big improvment

change 2: another hack we added later will sent you to your post(or actually the last post) after replying, with a url like this http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum23/HTML/011151.html#4

          on to solutions:
solution 1: make the url of the thread in the thread list be like http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum23/HTML/011151.html#4
that would mean though that every poster would be taken to the last post instead of the first. I believe many would disagree

solution 2(and what we can do when we find the time): make the number of posts a, link linking to http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum23/HTML/011151.html#4
it is not perfect, but you will be able to check if yours is the last post or not

I think the test thread needs a few more posts in order to see the result

But thanks for considering the suggestions.

I have used the "last post time" feature, and it is good for posts that you remember contributing to.

So MarkG, are you in the military now, or do you have to go some time in the future?

I have cousins in Denmark who have to draw a marble out of a bag. If it is a certain colour, they must go to the army.

In Canada, there is no conscription. I think that this is bescause the military wants more money for the soldiers it already has, and not more soliders for the money it (barely) has.

I'll be going in the army in a couple of years...

the denmark model sounds a bit... strange. a combination of service to the country and lottery...

Thanks for all the hard work, MarkG!

PS. A few weeks back, I was reading about the country of Greece. Is it still true that all Greek men must join the military?

                        Why not try:

First rooting you to the top of the page. A few seconds after that shows up, it automaticly takes you to the right spot.

If this would be too labor consuming, then we understand.
