  • SMAC Political Parties

Note: Please keep this topic strictly about your SMAC
    political ideas only!

As most of you will know, the U.S. has two main political
parties - Republicans and Democrats. In the U.K. I believe
they are known as Conservatives/Tory and Liberal. Anyway
here are what I believe their political ideas and philosophies
would be in the world of SMAC.

    Republican -

    - Limited federal powers (meaning you, the player, wouldn't
control each base individually but allow AI governors to make
    most decisions)

    - Low economy (tax) rate and high psychology rate

    - Strong national defense (military)

    - Emphasis on orbital missile defense

    - Interest in planet busters for "peace through power"

    - Pro "Free Markets" and tough on "Drone Riots"

    Democratic -

    - Federal control of faction (meaning you, the player,
would make nearly all decisions at all levels and limiting
    base governor powers)

    - High economy (tax) rate and average psychology rate

    - Less emphasis on national defense

    - little interest in orbital missile defense

    - Interest in conventional means rather than planet busters

    - Pro "Planned or Green Markets" and easy on "Drone Riots"

Now, maybe you don't fit perfectly in the SMAC Republican
or Democratic category, and maybe you don't always play the
same type of game but which would you consider yourself and
are your ideas a "moderate" or "strong?"

I would consider myself a SMAC STRONG REPUBLICAN because
I always build a strong military, build planet busters ASAP,
rely on Orbital defense for safety, I always give my A.I. governor
moderate control over my individual bases, try to keep tax rates
down, I am very tough on drones and I believe in free markets.

Almost right, Wesley. In UK the Liberals have been around for ages, but mostly as a minority party. The main contention lies between the Tory (Conservative) party and the Labo(u)r Party, which is presently in power at the moment. There are other parties, including the Green Party and the Monster Raving Loony Party, but these are even more sidelined than the Liberals and in the case of the MRLParty, a literal waste of time.

Hmmm... interesting. Perhaps for the Labour Party, you could include building Secret Projects halfway and then disbanding them to build a Millenium Dome then tearing it down after 13 turns elapse and then restarting the same situation.

Also if you could influence the growth rate to be +1 and thus having a direct influence on poll results, it would adequately reflect the Blair situation with young newborn Leo. Britain's Most Televised Pregnancy!!!

And, oh yes. If you were to include the Chinese Communist Party, you would have to arrange it somehow so that regardless of what measures they take or SE choices they go with, everybody in the entire world finds them utterly repulsive and reprehensible. So not too far different from Yang, then.

Good post! I'd say I'm definitely a SMAC republican, b/c as soon as I can I build 2-3 ODP's. What's interesting is that I rarely build any PBs unless I feel nuclear war is inevitable. Even if my fiercest enemy has one or two, I hold off on building them.

But I always go free market when I can (green when I'm at war). I usually have a low tax rate and high science rate. And I'll put bases on governors if I need to.

Planned economics for the growth and industry; complement well with the consciousness. Bases are under the eye of the boss (me) to ensure they are well tuned and running efficiently. Always democratic and usually Eudaimonic when the chance arises. Military usually defensive, but can use a vast industrial and technological backbone to rattle of a potent military fighting force when I see fit. I run the 'pure' Marxist faction.
