Warlock: Master of the Arcane
Did you try that game? I highly recommend it to try, at least the demo on STEAM. Why am I posting it here in Civ V forums? Because it is hex based 1UPT 4X game that I think does 1UPT better than Civ V. I do not know why, but it just feels better there. Probably because you can not have large army there, or because one can use magic and heal spells on units themselves, and units can cast spells as well, I do not know exactly why, but the game and especially combat feels fun. It may teach Firaxis how 1UPT can be improved.
Granted that I, played only about 4 hours, I may change my mind, especially because this game feels lucking the depth of CIV, but at the same time it feels that it kept the main fun parts while significantly removing and simplifying the tedious parts of the Civ game. Check it out and let me know what you think.
