Hunt Valley, Maryland, October 17, 2005 – Firaxis Games, continuing its aggressive growth and expansion into the console market, today announced the appointment of Bretton Wade as Director of Technology. He'll be responsible for directing the development of game and graphics technology that will enable the teams at Firaxis to reach new heights in delivering stunning game play experiences on next generation consoles and personal computers.

Bretton is a ten-year veteran of game and graphics software development, with a passion for games and the game industry. He comes to Firaxis from his position as Graphics Program Manager for Microsoft Xbox Base Software in Bellevue, Washington, where he worked with the Xbox team to set the vision for the Xbox 360, and influenced ideas for graphics across the Microsoft Corporation. During his six year tenure at Microsoft, Bretton also worked closely with key strategic title developers, set in motion creation of new technology to reduce game development costs for title developers, and as Software Design Engineer/Lead, worked on a number of successful PC games such as Flight Simulator 2004 and Combat Flight Simulator 3. "I'm excited to be joining Firaxis at such a critical juncture in the company's strategic growth," stated Bretton Wade. "It's a privilege to have the opportunity to lead such an energetic, talented, and successful group of engineers. We look forward to ramping up the technology behind the design of our games, and delivering even more compelling titles to fans around the world," he continued.

With a Master of Architectural Science degree from the Cornell University Program of Computer Graphics, Bretton has been researching and developing software technology since 1993. He has been an instructor at the University of Washington where he taught experienced engineers skills necessary for entering the games industry. Bretton brings a tremendous amount of next generation technology experience to Firaxis that will be instrumental in the continued growth and success of the company. "Firaxis is committed to continuing our delivery of top notch PC games, as well as equally compelling games for next generation consoles," said Jeff Briggs, Firaxis Founder, President and CEO. "With Bretton's wealth of knowledge and leadership, we're well poised to becoming a major player in the next gen arena," he added.
