There seems to be a trend concearning the various mods members of the Civ community are posting on this site (and or others). They are either a one-minor-change mods, or overwhelming "way-too-much" modifications of the game elements.
I am really looking forward a measured, balanced, interesting, without the overzealous modifications that destroy the basic Civ3 elements - a mod that enhances gaming experience, not destroys it in favor of "more units, more govs, more everything, more, more, more".
OTOH, I believe that a minor change is only that: A minor change. The game has many issues a mod could adress and they should be adressed by some members of the comunity. But since nobody is perfect, they should get some ideas and suggestions from the rest of us - those too lazy (like me ) to start an effort to accomplish a medium-scale mod themselves, but in the same time eager to find an enhancement of the game experience.
So, what should a measured modpack include? I shall write down what I think a modpack should include and I'll leave this subject open to discussion. Hopefully, some of us could agree on what should be done, what should such a modpack have and some even may start working on it.
So, MHO is that a modpack should:
- Add 4-6 new units. More would be overkill and less wouldn't allow us to place a new unit (or two) in every game era. More likely, because the game really can use more new modern units, the spread could be one for each era and three for the modern era. The units should not be unbalancing for the game, so someone has to really think about implementing them rightfully in their respective timeframe.
- Add 2 new goverment forms - my suggestions= preferably Theocracy (or some sort of Fundamentalism, available with Theology ) and Fascism (the latter has somehow to be distinct from Communism).
- Add a couple new resources and implement them in the gameplay (by linking specific units with them).
- Add 4-6 new city improvements (as to what, I think there are some interesting suggestions elsewhere and additionally most of them should go into the modern era)
- Add a couple new minor wonders (maybe more, if that is possible) that deal with corruction/happynes in the late game.
Do you think this is the right outlet? Would you have more/other suggestions? Input?
