Okay, here is my problem :
I just got civ3 from amazon. I installed DirectX8.a, rebooted, then installed civ, and rebooted.
Now, when I start the game, I get a small window with the tower, the screen goes black, then i get my desktop again, then black again (with an hourglass this time, then a standard cursor, then no cursor), then I can ear for a second or so a sound like an earthquake, then nothing. Nothing. Nothing.
The task manager tells me that 100% of CPU time is allocated to civ3.
I tried with DirectX8.1, and got the same result.
Can anyone help me or at least tell me that it is a frequently encountered problem that have no solution yet ?
I use Win2Ksp2 on a Duron with a GeForce2MX and a soundblaster
And, last but not least : an added bonus, when I try to use EditPlus to open civ3.ini, I get an explorer.exe freeze, yeepeee ...
