Civ II: ToT loads with black boxes and letters.

Recently, my Civ II: ToT game, which played just fine on my Win 10 machine btw, starting loading new games with black boxes in place of certain graphics and black letters in certain places, like in the info box above units. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game from the original disc several times to no avail.

Any ideas?
