  • Goto function & automated settlers

Has anyone else noticed a slightly higher degree of AI confusion in regards to units on goto and settlers on automation? It seems to me that these functions don't work so hot in TOT as compared to Civ II classic.

I use settlers on automation quite a bit but I find TOT automated settlers will very often get hung-up, or just drop back out of computer control for some unknown reason. They don't seem to terraform as well as they used to.

I've seen AI trade units come to trade with me and get hung-up on roads and spend the rest of the game going back and forth. On rails and when a number get hung up, this can take quite a long time to resolve. It is especially irritating after enemies get democratic and you can't bribe the buggers, you have to kill 'em if you want to get rid of them. Wierd thing is, I had a city at the end of a peninsula (Malaysia actually, on a pacific map) and these trade units got in the bottleneck of land and kept going back and forth on my rails but wouldn't trade with the city.

Finally, I've noticed units on goto are very stupid about the paths the choose. I've built roads and rails between cities, around mountain ranges, then had units just tear off across the mountains to get to an objective, taking forever to get there. I've had to end up shepherding them the whole way there.

These problems were present in Civ II but it just seems to me that they are slightly worse in TOT.
