Hmmm, I have a question WVU...did you come to Apolyton just to get some fillers to your game? The reason I ask is because when I logged on, my choice of civs were...limited shall we say with most of the, well, better civs already taken by players that I don't know nor did I know I was going to play with.
So, how many players are in this game of yours and why did they get first crack at the civ choice?
WVU; quite framkly, when you posted your intent for a game here on Apolyton, you were not being totally open on your game set-up - The bottom line is this. I need to know what all of your "other players" already know:
1. What are the map settings? (and I mean all of the settings)
2. How many players are "REALLY" playing this game?
3. How were the civ choices picked and why was I limited to the cv choices that I had?
4. Are there teams? (other than what I'm suspecting of everyone against the Apolytoners)
5. How are resources placed on the map?
6. Who are all of these other players?!?
WVU, you need to understand that I feel like I was not being told everything when you first placed your envite on the forum. I am giving you that chance right now. You need to be upfront with ALL of the players in your game.
I await your response.
- Wittlich

I posted on several different sites looking for players. I didn't realize I have to say that. My apologies if you felt misrepresented.
So, how many players are in this game of yours and why did they get first crack at the civ choice?
10, and they got first crack because they responded to my post earlier and sent me a PM earlier than others.

You know EXACTLy what the other players do. I didn't tell you anything different than I did them, and I promised no one a preferred civ. When I got PM's, I gave passwords, just like you, and it was first come, first served.
I don't feel I was being dishonest at all. I posted here and on CivFanatics and on FOFC. I didn't realize that I had to ONLY post on Apolyton to get people interested in a Pitboss game.
1. What are the map settings? (and I mean all of the settings)
Fantasy Map, Huge -- 24 hour turns.
2. How many players are "REALLY" playing this game?
There will be 10 players.
3. How were the civ choices picked and why was I limited to the cv choices that I had?
First come, first served, and the civ choices were limited by the game's random Civs chosen, and by other players picking their civs before you.
4. Are there teams? (other than what I'm suspecting of everyone against the Apolytoners)
Firstly, there's people from FOFC there, as well as people from CivFanatics. There's not gonna be anything teaming up just to get the few from Apolyton. That's just silly.
5. How are resources placed on the map?
Generated by the Fantasy Map.
6. Who are all of these other players?!?
Two from FOFC, a sports site, you and another perspective Apolyton (the only two who responded) the rest from CivFanatics. [/quote]

I don't feel I wasn't upfront. I didn't tell the people on FOFC or CivFanatics I was going on other sites to invite players, and if I did, I don't think they would care.
I understand that you feel you weren't told everything, and I apologize if you feel that way. I've run Pitboss games before with multiple people from multiple boards, and there wasn't even a single issue about it. I'm not aware of any issues between the boards, and if there was, I don't care. Playing Civ4 isn't the place for issues between boards. Again, I say -- I've run games with multiple players from different boards before, and there wasn't an issue. It shouldn't matter where the players come from, and I won't apologize for advertising on separate boards when there's specific areas designed for advertisement.
I set up the game the same for everyone, everyone has the same opportunity to pick civs, and they got responses as soon as I got their PM. I wasn't picking favorites to anyone, and no one got extra treatment in the game.
Allow me to ask you this question, and don't take this in a negative way, since I'm actually curious ... why does it matter that there's players from other boards?
Last question first: I myself have absolutely no heart-burn that there are players in this game from various game sites....I say - The More the Merrier!
I do apologize if I came on too strong. I was just surprised at the amount of other players in the game that I had no clue would be involved.
Of course, you did state that you were looking for a few players to "round out" your game...and this is in fact true.
It just would have been nice to know how many (maximum) players there would be and what civs were taken already along with what civs were still left open.
... But what the hell - I'm still willing to play with ya WVU.

GeoModder, What say you? Come on, it should be interesting to say the least.

That message would have been a perfect intoduction to your game and if you would have posted that message here - I have to say that you would of had to have beaten off all of the voluneers for your game! It does look like you are a true civ gamer and I, for one, am looking forward to this game now.
The bottom line: The Last Email you sent to me should have been the opening email for this thread....but then, there would probably have been too many voluneers!

I appreciate the feedback, and you are absolutely right in that I should have approached this differently.
Having said that, I do need one more player, so here's that email we were talking about. Would there be another person interested in joining our little group? PM me with your email address for the final spot.

Hey everyone! I'm Eric and I'll be the host of this wonderful game this time.
Due to one of the players getting stuck is a HORRIBLE situation (behind a mountain range with no room at all for expansion), we'll be restarting the game. This time, however, I'll be taken requests for Civs. Please respond to this email with whom you would like for your civ, and I'll see if that be done for you. First come, first served, though.
We'll be using Fantasy Maps, Huge size, Epic speed and Ancient starting point. Raging Barbarians have been turned on for the game. There will be 24 hour time limits.
The few rules I have are below, taken from theoob's rules for Pitboss:
1. Missing Turns -- Anyone who misses 3 consecutive turns (which would entail not taking a turn for at least 72 hours) without notifying me that they are going to be away will be replaced by an AI player immediately and then replaced by a human player as soon as is convenient. Once you have been replaced by a human you will not be able to take your game back.
To notify me of planned absences, you should either send me a PM or an email, and you should also rename yourself in the game to 'on holiday' or something like that, in case I miss your email (it's happened in the past). Note that I must have heard from you in some way, it won't be enough to say that you tried, if you rename yourself in the game there's no plausible way I can miss it.
2. Consecutive Turns -- It is possible to take a 'double turn' in the game by being the last to finish for one turn and then the first to finish the one after that. This has a positive effect because it speeds the game up, but the downside is that it can be exploited for military advantage by moving twice before your opponent has a chance to react.
So to keep the upside of double turns while eliminating (or at least minimizing) the downside, the rule is that if you are at war with another player (or are about to go to war with them, eg. sneak attacks) then you mustn't take two turns before they've had a chance to take one, or in other words you cannot go after them in one turn and before them in the next.
You can use the civstats log page for the game, or the RSS feeds from the same page, to tell if the other player has taken their turn (ask me about this if you don't know what I'm talking about).
A player must give his opponant as much time as needed to avoid a double move against him, playing first in the turn only when failure to do so would result in the turn being missed. In the case of sneak attacks or the outbreak of war he should alert his opponant via PM or email.
3. AI's -- When a human player drops out and I'm looking for a replacement, I have the AI take over temporarily. While the AI is in charge, you may not make any deals with it other than cease fire arrangements (which may or may not include reparations). This is because the AI may agree to silly deals which the human replacement would have to maintain for the minimum of 10 turns before they can cancel it.
4. No War in First 10 Turns -- To be more specific: no declarations of war are allowed in the first 10 turns of the game. On normal speed + ancient start this is 4000BC to 3640BC, otherwise you just know some poor (perhaps inexperienced) sap is going to be gone before they have a chance to do anything. You may however make preparations for a rush in this time, as long as it doesn't necessitate a declaration of war in the first 10 turns.
I'll be restarting the game when I get home from work (2 am EST -- US), so it gives me time to get a tenth player (someone dropped out).
Welcome players from Apolyton, CivFanatics and FoFC! Hope y'all have a good time in the game. If anyone has any questions or concerns, or suggestions, please let me know!
Oh, by the way - I utilize CivStats to keep track of my games....what is this game listed as?

Actually, I figured it out and joined....but will it change then?
