This would be more fitting as a bug report, but I couldn't find anything like it on the civ4 website.
When loading a game, you get what is a stylish version of the regular windows open file interface. It all works fine, but for one small detail: If you actually want to choose a save game by typing it's name, rather than clicking on it, the game does not assume a .civbeyondswordsave extension by deafult (I'd assume it works the same way in vanilla and warlords), meaning you have to type it yourself. Annoying much? yeah.
So, if any firaxis guys read this, add to bug list please
