I dont know if it's been mentioned or not, but civ4 will NOT run if your using part of your system memory to add to your built in graphics memory. For example, I have a HP Pavillion laptop that has an express mobility 200M with 128mb of ram in my laptop, I added an extra 128MB of ram from system memory to it, the game refused to start. I turned off the extra ram in the bios and the game worked like a charm.
