Hello folks nice to meet you,
I finally got through the tutorial without a blue white checkerboard screen lockup. I have a BFG 6800 gt OC video card and it happened all the time in Civ 4, all the time in Far Cry, and just today happened to me in Star Wars Battlefront II.
I read on the Far Cry message boards about this problem and I was directed to 3 causes.
1: A underpowerd Power supply
2: An overheating video card
3: Fast writes enabled in bios or the registy
So since I believed my power supply was ok I downloaded "forceware Coolbits " which adds over and underclocking options for nvidia cards ( mine is now clocked at the standard 350 mhz)
And "Riva Tuner" which allowed me to remove fastwrites from the windows registry ( already did it in
bios)
Voila! I was able to play the entire tutorial straight through. I dont know if this will help any other Geforce 6800 card users but I know I was plenty frustrated and any amount of help was well recieved.
I Hope I was some kind of help getting some of you folks some answers and the ability to enjoy this game.
