So far in Civ I was struggling with waging wars while playing normal speed (Prince level, nomal size map). Some troops were obsolete by the time they reached the battlefield. I didn't see how I was supposed to conquer the world before Elizabeth fired her spaceship.
Then I tried Epic. Well, the extra turns you get are used up by the longer duration for something to build. But there is another present waiting for you:
You can use your troops more often.
If you keep them alive ofcourse. Therefore, you can do a lot more conquering in the same time. And you have more time to get the troops in place.
So I'd say, if you are a Builder, Normal speed is fine, but if you are a Warmonger, go Epic.
