Civ 4 causing reboots as game reaches mid- to late game

My computer is randomly rebooting increasingly often as the game progresses beyond the medieval age. My system well exceeds the specs for the game, my video drivers are up-to-date, my framerate is perfectly smooth with graphics settings maxed, everything runs perfectly until my copmuter suddenly reboots.
