I can't remember exactly which part of the Civ series it was, but I really enjoyed that one was able to cross the poles and come out the other end. It is possible to circumnavigate the world in civ IV but I would have kinda liked to see missions to reach the north and south poles, perhaps requiring special units that are capable of walking on ice platforms, ie. ships that can navigate close enough in order to drop off and pick up such land units. Reaching the north and/or south pole first could also provide a little minor bonus to your civ. Perhaps a scientific bonus.

And last but not least I like the way the world spins around its X axis and I so much wish it would do so around its Y axis as well and that some units could do so as well with limitations.
