Snails and worms are too gross and nasty. Dogs are too cute.
So you have to compromise and eat chickens and cows. Dog meat is probably really good, but has anyone here eaten cat meat before? Cat meat sounds really nasty.

Actually, I think polygamy might be more natural than monogamy. Since, it would allow the male to continue to produce offspring.Originally posted by King of Rasslin
I dunno. Why are Mormons so angry when I ask about polygamy? I'm not against it or making fun of them; I think it's a great idea!![]()

I don't find eating dog-meat culturally backwards its no stranger than the French eating snails.

Wrestling is real!
Interesting thing here. South Korea has the highest per capita consumption of cigarettes in the world, at 4,153 cigarettes per capita per annum.
What is more STUPID than smoking? Based on this bit of info, I would say South Koreans aren't very bright. Japan is 2nd place, with 2,739 cigarettes per capita per annum, so things don't look good for Asians in general.

Holy crap.
I'll all for unusual (by Western standards) foods, ingredients, et al- but that's downright creepy.
I did not know that.

It's all relative. There are countries that think the American habit of frying unborn birds in grease is repulsive, but most of us love fried eggs in the morning.Originally posted by congobeast

My wife is Chinese (born and raised in Malaysia). She has lived in the US for 6 years, and she still is wigged by cold fried chicken. (All Americans know that KFC is better the next day cold!) The way she was raised is "cold=raw". Even a lettuce salad seemed strange to her, but she likes them now.
Got my new computer!!!!

And for the record, kimchi (or however else you want to spell it in English), rules. When she was my girlfriend, my wife couldn't beleive that some white boy from Ohio would love kimchi.

I've eaten everything at least once. Except Maggots... couldnt bring myself to actually accept magoots as food.Originally posted by King of Rasslin

I don't think I could eat maggots either, but I have never heard of or seen Koreans eat maggots.Originally posted by Calc II

There are three ways to pickle something: with bacteria, with salt, or with vineagar. The bacterial method is by far the oldest. It's not any stranger than, say, making cheese or alcohol or leavend bread (all of which also use bacteria).Originally posted by King of Rasslin
Does this "substance" known as kimchee have a lot of alcohol in it? They bury it in the ground and let it decay for several months before digging it back up. Gross.
Besides, who makes kimchee in buried clay pots any more? Most of the stuff you buy is made in a factory.Given the population densities of modern Korea, I seriously doubt most Korean housewives have a back yard to bury a pot in even if they wanted to do it that way.
Seriously, if you like spicy food, give kimchee a try. All it is is pickled cabbage made with tons of hot pepper.
If you wanna put down pickled foods, I think we Americans win the prize there (pickled pig's feet, pig's ears, eggs, etc.).
Oh, and no, it doesn't contain alcohol, although it goes reasonably well with beer (what spicy food doesn't?).

I'm sorry I got this thread back onto food...
Let's go back to education. Does South Korea have a shite college education system like Japan does? Most of the advantages Japanese students have over American students coming out of high school are lost by the end of college...

Does a discussion of the Korean education system count as "current events", Ming? Or is it a permissible topic? It's an interesting subject, so I'd like to discuss it if possible.
Not that I'm expecting much serious discussion to come out of this thread. It's a shell of its former self...![]()

I don't think it ever was much of serious thread. It sort of became the Korean Cultural discussion thread with very little Civ3 related comments.Originally posted by Drake Tungsten
