It's hot stove time, and the White Sox are dealing. Apparently they've finally decided to rip the whole thing down and build with young talent. They are squarely in the spotlight at the winter meetings. The belle of the ball.

--Boston Red Sox get Chris Sale, probably making them the early favorite in the AL East, if not the entire AL. Chisox get two top prospects and two Class A minor leaguers.

--Washington Nationals get Adam Eaton, giving up 3 young pitchers (21-22 y.o.), including 2 first-rounders. Big price to pay, but Eaton's only 28 and has a team-friendly deal. Looks like he will play center, although he's clearly much better in RF.

With Sale - arguably the best lefty in the AL - gone, literally the entire team is up for auction. It's expected that Quintana will also be dealt, and Jose Abreu opted out of his multi-year deal to become arbitration eligible, so he's clearly on the block. Supposedly the Dodgers are kicking the tires on Todd Frazer as well.

The Sox have more work to do, since they don't have a major-league catcher on the entire 40-man roster.

As for the World Champion Chicago Cubs, looks like they will walk away from Aroldis Chapman and sign themselves a new closer. They also signed Jon Jay to a 1-year deal, which is a clear signal that they are saying good-bye to Dexter Fowler. I'll be surprised if Fowler doesn't end up in St. Louis. Great to see he gets to cash in after gambling on a 1-year prove-it deal. Other than that, it should just be minor roster tweaks.

They're reporting St. Louis this morning.

Looks like that's confirmed: Cardinals signed OF Dexter Fowler to a five-year, $82.5 million contract, with a full no-trade clause.

After the Cubs signed Hayward last year and Jon Jay from St. Louis a few weeks ago, seems like this was inevitable.

Wish last year we would have offered dexter 82 for 5 instead of hayward 180 for life.

Cubs won the World Series. CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES!

              CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!

It's a tough habit to break after a lifetime of disappointment, but we need to focus on that and let the losers do the b1tching.

Plus, Heyward is 4 years younger and better defender than Fowler. Heyward's slash line from 2015: .293/.359/.797 -- and his career is .262/.346/.761.
Not chopped liver. You can make a good case that last year was the outlier -- and he still had a +1.5 WAR. And we STILL won it all. He'll be fine.

In Jed, Joe, and Theo we trust.

True Dat, but I don't expect them to make no mistakes. If you fear to error you will do nothing, or the wrong thing. Think Bulls.
I'm actually hope he goes back and has a year closer to his average, so someone may want him.

MLB discussing starting extra innings with runner on 2nd - will try it in rookie ball this season. What a stupid idea!!

Yes, because bunting the runner to third and two intentional walks is just SOOOO exciting .

Who will be put on second. The lead-off man? The last batter from the previous inning? This could screw up some stats? Especially pitcher stats.

Stupid idea on multiple levels. Extra inning games are not the problem.

There are 2,430 games in the regular season, and about 10% of them go into extra innings.

In 2016 7.6% to be more concise 185 games out of 2428
and 122 of those 185 eneded in the 10th or 11th inning.

Interesting. I think the record for extra-inning games in a season is in the 250 range.
I was looking at stats from 2011-2013.

If that's the most ever, that definitely is not the problem.
As far as I'm concerned just limit that steeping out of batters box and problem solved. Do they really need to readjust their glove and crotch between every damn pitch?
