  • Any UK posters here? Londoners, or people who could help with possible move to London job wise and other ways?

    Hey peeps,

so it seems that I am making a move to London at some point in the next few years.

Why? It is the only place that makes sense to me ATM. Close enough to Finland for me to shuffle once a month (only 4 hour flight), english speaking, fair salaries, close culturally, etc. I figure I'd have a shot to pay taxes there.

I am an experienced infosec specialist with a background in research, entrepreneuship and as a employer in the finance sector as well. I have particular fields I would be good at, very well connected in the Baltic/Nordic region and some in the eastern Europe as well, but not in London or UK in particular.

    Why?

I am going to sell my house in 3 years, the province screwed up really bad, we are going to lose ALL our services. Health case, post office already left, we will even lose our high school. Simply put, no future what so ever. So why extend the suffering for 20 years, when I could get something otu of this house in 3 years. So why wait 3 years? Because after that my son will be first grader, which provides me the opportunity to not pay for kindergarten or in fact pick them up from there. So I could jstu as well fly to Finland once a month, work from Finland for a week or two so I can be with the kids, and bring the kids to London like every other month. So I'd need only 1 or 2 weeks a month to leave and work out of office. In my line of work, very doable. I am not moving the kids with me. They are too young and have a mother in here.

So if I'm going to fly in and otu once a month, I reckon around 5 hours per way is acceptable (and cost effective enough). So London will do and is only logical. I guess I'd prefer the states but it's too far for now at least.

So I'd need to find an employer that is in London. Does not have to be a UK company. Also, speak Finnish, some Estonian and can refreshen my Swedish enough to be not too offensive in a years time. So I could travel the Nordics for the company. I would prefer a nice salary as I am experienced. I have good references and can prove my abilities and past projects. I would like to look into possible employers as soon as possible, even though I will be making my move later, but no later than 3 years' time. I could work earlier, even next year, but then it would have to be a great match.

I can work for infosec company to do technical presales, my pronounciation needs working though because I sound like a rapist with my Finnish accent. And English manners. Now I fly with bad manners in here as I am usually the most senior so it gives me credibility to wear only t shirts and jeans and never suits. I figure Englishmen are not as flexible and I have no seniority in terms of this is now acceptable for Pekka man. I am willing to give up my freedmo in this sense. But I also need to be paid accordingly.

Also, where to live in London? How to find a place? No kids, just me. So a smaller place would do. I am still in a relationship so there is a small chance that I would not move alone, but most likely I would. I really like her and she could find a job easy being an experienced young doctor and a native english speaker and socially gifted, but let's face it, she can probably take me only so long before she realises I am not Mr. Right. Which would be a precondition to move to another country, I figure. So, most likely alone. Any local ones here? Hints, tips, websites?

London is very expensive (much more so than the US). Perhaps this show might be of help: http://www.hgtv.com/shows/house-hunt...will-be-london

You will be living in a one room appartment paying 2500 euros rent and if you take the wrong turn at the road... *SLIT*

You will earn money but be working like a slave so that in the one hour free per day you can go to a restauruaaant and order the filet -o- salmon before going fast back to sleep to your next slave day.

      NO!

Also, since you'll be an immigrant, you'll be the only one working.

English just wear sweat pants and collect welfare

Whereas you could stay in Finland with your kinky girlfriend and eat reindeer and stay one hour in saunas and then bloom to the hole in the ice.
Well, ok, that's not ideal either so I don't know

Try rightmove.co.uk or any of the other listing websites - plenty of data to make informed living location choices.

The thing I hate about working in London is the commute. Which is why working from home is so useful. The worklife balance in London is pretty good. The Frenchies I work with were surprised that the UK has strong worker protections and (in my sector at least) better ethics/balance - it flies in the face of the rhetoric they hear from their politicians when it comes to labour reform.

I would hate the cost of living too, except I own an expensive house with a long term low interest rate mortgage.
