  • Recommend DinoDoc some anime

Preferably on Netflix. I've just finished watching Psycho Pass and Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit and was wondering if the sages here had any other suggestions for me to watch.

    Fate/Zero (2011-2012)
    Action, Fantasy
    Season 1-2 – (25 Episodes)
    Dubbed
    Ratings: 4.2 Stars
Storyline: Determined to win the 4th Holy Grail War, the Einzbern family call upon the hitman, Kiritsugu Emiya, for help. However, Kiritsugu soon becomes torn between his new family and what he must do to win the Holy Grail War.
Magnificent storytelling, epic in scope, mest see art and animation, etc, etc. Only drawback is that it's a prequel, so it assumes that you know things you don't, but the anime it is a prequel to is not really worth it.

    Fullmetal Alchemist (2003)
    Action, Drama, Sci-Fi
    Season – (51 Episodes)
    Dubbed
    Ratings: 4.3 Stars
Storyline: After failing to resurect their mother after her death, the Elric brothers are left with physical deformations. They now must search for the Philsopher’s Stone to restore them to their original bodies, even if it means working for the military.
Fantastic story that will leave you laughing and crying in turns; although ultimately optimistic in tone, you'll find yourself thinking they can't possibly twist the knife any further, when they do. Not to be confused with Brotherhood, which I have not seen but starts off at the same place but winds up in a completely different place. (My niece has seen it, thinks the 2003 version is better than Brotherhood).

    Gurren Lagann (2007)
    Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi
    Season 1 – (27 Episodes)
    Dubbed
    Ratings: 4.4 Stars
Storyline: After humanity has been chased underground by mutant oppressors, a team of an orphan, a robot, a exuberant man, a sharpshooter, and many others fight to take back the surface.
    A ridiculously over-the-top romp!

    Welcome to the NHK (2006)
    Comedy, Drama
    Season 1 – (24 Episodes)
    Dubbed
    Ratings: 3.9 Stars
Storyline: Satou Tatsuhiro is a NEET with social withdrawal. His life begins changing when he meets Misaki Nakahara who claims she will cure him of his ways.
A dark, depressingly funny comedy opus. Yes, I said opus.

No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I had a WTF-grin just like when watching Hot Fuzz.

Yugioh Zexal. Realistic characters, edge of your seat action, and a plot so dense you'll need to take notes.

I am pretty sure that anime was better in 2012 and before. Or maybe I just have mostly watched all the good stuff and the yearly output leans bad.

I know there are still a few good shows I have to watch, but I have watched most things that I would be inclined to.

Death Note: Guy finds a book that will kill whoever's name he writes in it. Hilarity ensues.

Perfect Blue: Actress might be murdering people, isn't quite sure herself as to what's going on

Monster: Surgeon saves a child's life, child basically turns into Hitler. You'll need to torrent a fansub as only the first two seasons have been ported to English.

Black Butler: Wealthy orphan has a pact with a demonic butler. Hilarity ensues.

When They Cry / Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (Kai): Some kids keep killing each other, then everything resets as though nothing were amiss with no explanation as to what just happened. This eventually gets cleared up. Only the first season is available on Netflix so you'll need to torrent a fansub for the rest.

Black Lagoon: An unscrupulous mercenary riverboat crew in southeast Asia does a bunch of ****. There's also a fansubbed OVA that follows the series.

I like that one... except the second season was stupid.

                On a lighter note:

School Rumble: Stupid comedy about stupid schoolgirls being stupid, I gave this one 5/5

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu: Full Metal Panic is a giant robot series about a teenaged mercenary who has to protect some high school girl for some reason (I forget the specifics). This is a sort-of-spinoff (I don't think watching Full Metal Panic is a prerequisite) that focuses on what happens when a psychotic teenaged mercenary tries to pretend that he's not a psychotic teenaged mercenary.

Ramen Fighter Miki: Miki delivers ramen and beats the **** out of people.

Wallflower: Four prettyboys have to turn a goth girl into a non-goth girl or else they have to start paying rent.

Are these "Full Metal X" titles anyhow related?

Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Alchemist are entirely unrelated - Full Metal Panic is giant robots, Full Metal Alchemist is magic with some steampunk

Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu was highly amusing the one time I saw an epidose at an anime expo, we were all laughing

Does FMA Brotherhood follow the plot of the manga more closely than the original FMA? Because the original FMA anime took the plot in some rather lame directions.

Yes, Brotherhood follows the manga plot throughout. However, the creator of the manga actually liked what they did with the original anime.

Loved the first two, but note that the two FMP series that bookend Fumoffu are canon and Fumoffu is not; further, while the first series balances stark mecha action with goofy high school hijinks, the second series gets into some really dark territory, so much so that anyone watching first -> Fumoffu -> second without understanding this is in store for quite a shock.

Haven't seen the other two animes.
